SF Dragon Boat Festival

Treasure Island is one of my favorite spots in the bay area. The views are awesome and the drive over the Bay Bridge on a sunny weekend with the wind hitting my face is worth the drive from the South Bay.

On Saturday September, 29, 2015, the 20th Annual Dragon Boat Festival was taking place.  The weather was perfect, the food was great and the atmosphere was chill as usual.

Below are some pictures from the event.

Sunday Streets in The City

Over the past few months, I’ve volunteered as a photographer at the monthly Sunday Streets events throughout San Francisco’s diverse neighborhoods and districts.

The entire experience has been fun and it’s been a great way for me to expand on my photography skills and techniques. The Sunday Streets events are organized by the Liveable City Organization and there about a dozen or so of the Sunday Streets events throughout the summer months.

Each of the events gives residents and visitors a chance to walk the streets without any cars at all, but they can also dance, do yoga, bike, play Jenga, just about any physical activity you can think of.

The idea for Sunday Streets came from Bogotá, Colombia:

Sunday Streets originated in Bogotá, Colombia as “Ciclovía,” a day of free, healthy activities that promote community in public streets. Thirty years later, the concept has spread around the world from Tokyo, Japan to Kiev, Ukraine. And it has now been in San Francisco since 2008! (read more)

Below are pictures I have taken from several Sunday Streets events. =)

The Heart of Happy Hollow

In the 1950’s, people from all over the USA fell in love with Disneyland, and wanted some place like Disneyland in their home town. Jaycees, Alden Campen and Ernie Renzel (former Mayor of San Jose) took this dream to heart, and following Oakland’s lead (the creation of Oakland’s Fairyland), approached City “fathers” in 1956 with the idea of developing a children’s park on property owned and for sale by the Kelley Family (the property was on the market before Mrs. Kelley died and the family wanted to subdivide property).
